Sosan Genkyo (1799-1869) was a Rinzai Zen priest of the late Edo period. He was born in Higo. Suzan is his Dosho, Genkyo is his real name, and his pen name is Eluanwangen and Goranshitsu. He was the 535th generation of Myoshinji Temple. He studied under Keibo Gen’ei at Miseiji Temple in Higo (Kumamoto Prefecture), Gyokukan Genko at Kogenji Temple in Awa (Tokushima Prefecture), and Takuzu Gosen at Sohmiji Temple in Owari (Aichi Prefecture). In 1851, he was promoted to Myoshinji Temple, and in 1857, he moved to Enpukuji Temple. His posthumous name was Zen Master Shinki Myoyo. Sosan also left behind numerous Zen paintings and ink rubbings, which have influenced modern Zen monks.
