Chung Sang-Hwa was born in 1932 in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Graduated from the Painting Department of the National University of Fine Arts and Music, Seoul National University, he went to Paris in 1967, then came to Japan in 1969 to live in Kobe, where he held solo exhibitions in various locations. He has left his mark on the avant-garde art scene in the Kansai region.
Currently resides in Seoul.
