Ikeda Koson (1803-1868)…A painter of the Edo Rimpa school in the late Edo period. A disciple of Hoitsu Sakai, Ikeda was a highly respected disciple along with his brother, Kiichi Suzuki. He was introduced to Hoitsu in his early teens during the early Bunsei era (early 1860s), and is thought to have taken the name Koson from one of the characters of Hoitsu’s given name, “Yingson. He was a cultured man who excelled in the appreciation of calligraphy and paintings, loved the tea ceremony, and was well versed in waka poetry.
