Oka Minzan (1734-1806) was a painter of the mid-Edo period. His name is Huan and his characters are Kimisho. His nickname was Rigenta. He first studied painting under Katsuta Yusei, a painter of the Kano school and official painter of the Hiroshima domain, and later under Song Shiseki. He later studied under Sung Shi-seki, and later became an instructor to his students while working for Asano Shigesheng, the seventh lord of the Hiroshima domain. He was promoted to the position of Okuzume, but resigned when Shigesheng retired, and was appointed as the head of Konshu-zume, a position he held until his death. Minzan is also said to have observed and sketched various places in the domain as an official painter of the domain, painted many paintings at the request of the domain lord and other families, and taught others who wished to pursue painting.
