Tomita Keisen (1879-1936) was a Japanese painter active from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. His first name was Shingoro and his last name was Takashin. His aliases include Sessen and Keizanjin. He first studied the Kano school under Kinugasa Morimasa, the last official painter of the Fukuoka domain, and then went to Kyoto to study the Shijo school under Toji Kakao. He then went to Kyoto to study the Shijo school under Toji Kakao, and later under Tomioka Tessai. He adopted Buddhist painting, Zen painting, Nanga, and Western expressionism, and developed a deformed, free and unrestrained style.
He was recognized by Yokoyama Taikan and became a member of the Nihon Bijutsuin in 1915. In 1935, he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.
