artdescription
The six best poets (Sōjō Henjō, Ariwara no Narihira, Fun'ya no Yasuhide, Kisen Hōshi, Ono no Komachi, and Ōtomo no Kuronushi) are the poets in the Heian period who were criticized by Ki no Tsurayuki, who edited Kokin Wakashū. The title of the six best poets was named subsequently.
This art here depicts the poets humorously not like the painter Soga's usual art style.

Soga Shōhaku (1730-1781) was a painter of the mid-Edo period.

Many of his works are around Ise region where he was traveling in his 30s.
He called himself a descendant of Soga group, and the theme of his paintings was based on Chinese history.

Shōhaku learn about painting from Takada Keiho, whose works are famous for the fancifulness.
