Jiun Onkō (1718‐1804) was born in Ōsaka.

He became a monk at Hōrakuji Temple when he was 13 years old and there he learnt Buddhist Tantrism and Sanskrit.
After becoming a temple master of Chōeiji, he continued to practice asceticism.
From 1758 he started to live in quiet retirement.
Yanagisawa Yasumitsu, a feudal lord of Nara prefecture, supported him to construct Kōkiji Temple.
He passed away in 1804, and was buried in Kōkiji Temple.
