Matsui Gensen — Born in Iguchi Village, Ika District (present-day Takatsuki-chō, Nagahama City). A Confucian scholar who studied under Itō Tōgai. He entered service with the Zeze Domain, and in 1748 (Kan’en 1 / Enkyō 5), at the time of the tenth Joseon Tongsinsa mission to Japan, he was appointed by domain order to receive and attend the envoys at the castle town of Zeze. There, he engaged in poetic exchanges with four Korean literati, including the Chief Secretary (Seijutsukan) Pak Gyeonghaeng (Gyoken).

Pak Gyoken (Park Gyeonghaeng) — Chief Secretary (Seijutsukan) of the tenth Joseon Tongsinsa mission to Japan in 1748. He contributed a laudatory preface, “Eulogy for Matsui Kōshi,” to The Biography of Matsui Kōshi, compiled by Matsui Gensen.
