Description
Kaho Akira (1927–2018) was a Japanese-style painter active from the Shōwa through the Heisei periods. Born in Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture, he joined the Seikōsha (Aokōsha) group in 1949 and studied under Nishiyama Suishō. He rose to prominence as a central figure in the Nitten exhibitions but withdrew in 1988 to pursue an independent path. From his early works depicting socially engaged themes, he developed a new artistic direction centered on richly expressive landscape painting. He received numerous honors, including the Japan Arts Grand Prize, the First Art and Culture Promotion Association Award, and the Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize.
