- Description
- Fudō Myōō is one of the Wisdom Kings (Myōō), deities distinctive to Esoteric Buddhism. He is regarded as an emanation of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahāvairocana) and serves as the central figure among the Five Great Wisdom Kings (Godai Myōō).
In this composition, on the viewer’s left stands Kongara Dōji, the seventh of the Eight Great Attendant Boys, and on the right is Seitaka Dōji, the eighth. The Eight Great Attendant Boys (Hachidai Dōji, abbreviated from Hachidai Kongō Dōji) are eight youthful attendant deities who accompany Fudō Myōō, represented in the form of young acolytes.
